The district of Nagpur is one of the main districts of the state as well as the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The district is the main part of the Nagpur Division. The city of Nagpur is the centre for all the administrative works that is done about the district. The district is bordered by the districts of Bhandara, Chandrapur, Wardha and Amravati district. The district is also bordered by the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district was annexed by the British Army in the year 1853 after which the region was declared as the Nagpur Province. The district covers a land area of 9900 sq km with a population of approximately 46.5 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of around about 470 people per sq km. The district was initially a part of the separate state of Bombay which was later added to the state of Maharashtra. The district is famous all over India for the exclusive quality of Oranges that it produces.
