Gadchiroli

The district of Gadchiroli is one of the most important districts of the state of Maharashtra. The district is located in the south – eastern part of the state. The districts that border the district of Gadchiroli are Chandarpur and Gondia. The district is also bordered by the states of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The district is literally located in the basin of River Godavari. The district is also blessed with two other rivers named Indravati and Pranhita. The district was all over the news due to the Naxalite events that occurred in the region. There are still some Naxalite leaders who hide in the region. The district of Gadchiroli covers a land area of approximately about 14483 sq km with a population of about 10.1 lacs individuals. The district is the second least populated districts among all the districts of the state. The district has a population density of a meagre 74 people per sq km. The district is primarily predominated by tribal population which makes it one of the 250 most backward districts of India.
