The district of Solapur is primarily existent for the River Bheema that flows through the heartland of the district providing the residents of the districts with the water needed for survival. The district has its main administrative centre in the city of Solapur itself. The district of Solapur has quite an interesting and ancient past that is quite intriguing to study. The district of Solapur played a very important role in the independence of India. In the medieval times, the district and the nearby regions was under the rule of the great Mauryan king Ashoka.
