The district of Pune is a very important district for the state of Maharashtra. The district has the main city of Pune as its main administrative centre which is also a very important city for the state as well as India. The district was under the rule of the Nizams before it was annexed by the British Army after a long and stiff struggle. Before the Nizams the land was under the rule of the Mughal kings.  The district was also under the rule of the legendary king of Chhattrapati Shivaji who is a subject of pride for all the people of Maharashtra. The district of Pune covers a land area of approximately 15633 sq km with a population that amounts to a gigantic number of 94.2 lacs individuals. The district is the 6th most populated district of the World. The district has a population density of around about 603 people per sq km making it one of the most crowded regions of India.
