West Bengal

The state of West Bengal is one of the very important states of India. The state is located along the delta region of the mighty Ganges and is an extremely fertile land. The state has its capital in the city of Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta. The city was also the capital for a long period in British India. The state of West Bengal covers a land area of approximately 88,752 sq km. The population of the state is the 4th largest population with 91,347,736 individuals at a population density of 1000 individuals per sq km. The state has one of the most important ports of India after Mumbai.
