Vellore

The district of Vellore is one of the most important districts of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district has its main administrative centre for the control of all the administrative works in the city of Vellore itself. The district and the areas surrounding the district of Vellore were under the rule of the Cholas, the Rashtrakutas, and the Pallavas and later under the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire and the Marathas. Before Independence the district was a part of the Madras Presidency which was divided into many districts. In the year 2000, a new district of Tuieupattur’s creation had been proposed from the land of the district of Vellore. The district of Vellore covers a land area of approximately around 6077 sq km with a population of about 39.2 lacs individuals. The population density for the district of Vellore is approximately around 646 people living in per sq km of the area.
