Kanniyakumari

The district of Kanyakumari is one of the most beautiful coastal districts of the India. The district is the southernmost land of the state of Tamil Nadu as well as that of India. The district has the southernmost tip of land of India which is called ‘Kanyakumari’. This is where the district gets its name from. The administrative head of the district of Kanyakumari is the city of Nagercoil. The district is ranked second after Chennai when it comes to urbanisation. The district was a part of the princely state of Travancore before being added to the state of Tamil Nadu. The district of Kanyakumari holds in a total population of about 18.6 lacs individuals who live in a total area of approximately about 1684 sq km. The population density of the district of Kanyakumari is approximately around about 1005 people per sq km of the total area under the administration.
