The Nilgiris

The district of Nilgiris is one of the most beautiful lands of southern India. The district originally gets its name from the mountain range Nilgiri which partially appears to be blue in colour and thus the name Nilgiris. The district has the city of Ooty as the main city for the control of administration for the district. The city of Ooty is also known be the name of Udaghamandalam.  The district is one of the greenest places of Southern India. The district was one of the prime colonies of the Portuguese explorers. The district of the Nilgiris covers a land area of approximately 5352 sq km with a population of approximately around 7.3 lacs individuals. The district of the Nilgiris has a population density of approximately 421 people per sq km. The district is one of the least populated districts of the state of Tamil Nadu. One very rare flower of Kurunji grows in here which blooms in every single 14 years turn.
