Salem

The district of Salem is one of the centrally located districts of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district of Salem has the city of Salem as the main centre for the administration of the district. The district of Salem was a part of the legendary ancient kingdom of the Kongu Nadu. The district was the largest district for the state of Tamil Nadu until the division took place. The district of Salem was divided into the districts of Salem and Dharmapuri. Later some time the district already divided Salem was again divided and the district of Namakkal was created. 
The district of Salem furnishes a land area of approximately around 5248 sq km with a population of roughly about 34.8 lacs people. The district has a population density of approximately around 663 sq km. The district is one of the major industrial zones for the state of Tamil Nadu with a lot of industries already set up inside the district.
