The district of Dharmapuri has the historical town of Thakadoor which is presently termed as the city of Dharmapuri. The city is also the main administrative city of the district of Dharmapuri. The district came into official existence in the year 1965. The district of Dharmapuri was one of the very important parts of the legendary kingdom of Kongu Nadu kingdom. Later on the region was ruled by the Rashtrakitas and then by the cholas. The district of Dharmapuri is inhabited by the people from different linguistics. To add to the historical importance the district also a quite good amounts of mineral resources that make the land of extreme importance to the state.
