The district of Jodhpur is one of the extremely important historical districts of the north – western state of Rajasthan. The district has its main centre for administration in the city of Jodhpur itself which is famous all over India owing to the historical background that it has. The district is an important part of the legendary Marwar region that has played a very important part in shaping up the history of India itself. The district of Jodhpur is bordered by the other districts of Bikaner, Nagaur, Pali, Ajmer and Jaisalmer. The district of Jodhpur covers an approximate land area of about 22892 sq km with a population of 36.8 lacs individuals. The district is ranked second according the population only after Jaipur district. The district of Jodhpur has a population density of approximately about 161 people per sq km.  The district is known as the ‘Blue City’ or the ‘Sun City’. The district attracts a lot of tourists and thus tourism is a very important industry in the district.
