The district of Karauli is one of the very important districts of the north – western state of Rajasthan. The district of Karauli has its main administrative centre in the city of Karauli itself. The district of Karauli is bordered by the other districts of Dholpur, Dausa, Bharatpur and Swai Madhopur. The district is also bordered by the state of Madhya Pradesh. The kdistrict of Karauli was previously a very important part of the legendary Matsya kingdom which was later annexed by the fierce warriors of the Rajputana.
