The district of Nabarangapur is one of the districts which have a majority of its population as the tribal people. The main centre for the control of the administrative works in the district of Nabarangapur is the city of Nabarangapur, which is also the most important city of the district. The district was initially a part of the district of Koraput until the year 1992 when the district was created. The land was under the rule of the Kalinga Empire which was arguably the best period for the district and its surrounding regions. The district is an important part of the Koraput division. The district of Nabarangapur covers a land area of approximately 5294 sq km with a population of about 12.1 lacs individuals.
