The district of Kandhamal came into being on the districts map of India in the year 1994. The district was previously a part of the Boudh – Kandhamal district which was brpken off in the year 1994.The district of Kandhamal has its main administrative operational centre in the city of Phulbani. The district has always been in news for the caste differences that it has. The district had been the subject to communal fights between Hindu’s, Christians and two local tribes of Kandha and Pana. The district is one of the most rural areas of the state with great sceneries to bind you.The district of Kandhamal covers a land area of approximately around about 8021 sq km with a population of about 7.3 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of approximately 91 people living in per sq km of the area. The district is one of the least crowded regions of India.
