The district of Mayurbhanj is one of the most important districts of the state of Orissa. The district has its main administrative centre for the district is the city of Baripada which also happens to the most important city for the district. The district was a part of the princely state of Mayurbhanj which was later added into the official state of Orissa in the year 1949.The district of Mayurbhanj is famous for the cultural art forms that it has and which are completely unique that the others. The district of Mayurbhanj is one of the districts with huge amounts of mineral deposits. The district has one of the oldest and the most productive iron ore mines of the state. The district has a population of about 25.13 lacs individuals living in a total area of about 10431 sq km. The district is the largest state area wise and is ranked third with population among the districts of Orissa.
