Jind

The district of Jind is a part of the Hisar division. The district has its main centre of administration at the city of Hisar itself. The district was created in the year 1966.The district was arguably one of the first and d the most kingdom regions formed by the Sikhs. The District is located in the central part of Haryana. The district probably gets its name from the ‘Jainti Devi Temple’ that the Pandavas built during their exile according to the legend of the Mahabharata. From there the name Jaintipuri which with the passage of time became shortened and composite at Jind. The approximate size of the district is around 2700 sq km with a population that amounts up to 13 lacs individuals. The population density of the district is around about 493 people per sq km. The district has a majority of Jats living in the district as it is a part of the Jat Belt of Haryana.
