The district holds its headquarters in the city of Amreli itself. The district of Amreli was previously known as Amravati which is the Sanskrit version of the present name of Amreli. Talking of the past of Amreli, the region was just a small village. The village started its journey to become a town when the Marathas took over the reign of the area.
