Legends about Kaal Bhairav

There are various story related to Kaal Bhairav. One among them is that, Kaal Bhairav killed Raja Prajapati or Raja Daksha. One day Raja Daksha planned to organize a big Yagya, but he did not invite his own daughter ‘Sati’. But still she came to attend that event. Actually Raja Daksha never liked the marriage between his daughter and lord Shiva. When she came there, she faced anger of his father, as he did not give invitation to her. And more to that, he started insulting Lord Shiva. He questioned the supremacy of lord Shiva and also told her daughter the he stole her from him.

But when Raja Daksha reached his limits, this made Sati angry over him. She started to argue with his father as how bad thoughts he has about lord Shiva. In rage and anger, she jumped in to the fire of Yagya. And she died there. Lord Shiva, the supreme among, sensed this happening and in anger, Kaal Bhairav one of his manifestations came out of him. He then orders him to kill Daksha. As told, Kaal Bhairav killed the Raja Daksha by cutting is head.

One another famous story related to Kaal Bhairav is that, one day three supreme gods of the universe, Brahma, Vishnu and Lord Shiva were discussing some matter. Lord Brahma in his talks looked to much snobby to lord Shiva and some of his saying angered him. Then Kaal Bhairav came out and cut one among the five heads of Brahma. But since he committed sin of killing a ‘Brahman’, he had to roam the whole world as a naked beggar.

How Kaal Bhairav Jayanti is Celebrated?

In Hindu religion, Kaal Bhairva Jayanti is celebrated with great, reverence respect and enthusiasm. On this day, ‘Jagrata’ (No sleep in night) is carried out at various places. As dog is the Royal ‘Sawaari’ of the Kaal Bhairav. Dog across the country are worshipped on this day. A huge function is carried out at Bhairav Prasad Temple in Vaishno Devi. In the Varanasi city, lots of cultural programs and prayers are carried out.
