Dakshin Dinajpur

The district of Dakshin Dinajpur was established in the year of 1992 when the district of West Dinajpur was redrafted into Dakshin Dinajpur district. Initially it was like that the district of Dinajpur was divided into East Dinajpur and West Dinajpur. Later the two districts were redrafted into Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur. There are a few small rivers that flow through the land of Dakshin Dinajpur. The district is heavily dependent on agriculture as it is the main occupation of the people of the region. The main crops that grow in the region are Paddy and Wheat. The district of Dakshin Dinajpur has an approximate size of 2220 sq km which holds a population which is roughly equal to 16.7 lacs individuals. The density of population of Dakshin Dinajpur is 753 individuals per sq km. The district of Dakshin Dinajpur is the least populated district of the state of West Bengal. The district is listed as one of the 250 most backward district of India.
