The district of kapurthala is one of the newest districts of the northern state of Punjab. The district is mainly divided into two different segmental parts which is divided by a different district. The main centre from where the whole administration of the district is maintained is in the city of Kapurthala itself. The district has some parts of it which is exceptionally developed when it comes to industries. The district is one of the districts which are bilaterally dependent on both industries and agriculture for the proper support to the economy of the district itself.

The district is also one of the smallest and the most little populated districts of the state of Punjab.
