Wayanad

The district of Wayanad is one of the 14 districts of Kerala that makes up the state of Kerala. The district of Wayanad was carved out of the districts of Kozhikore and Kannur districts in the year 1980. The region of the district is also known as the Mayakshetra which refers to as the land of the Maya’s. There are many interesting and blood chilling legends that grow around the region of Wayanad. According to many historians, the forests of the regions have many links to some men of the past living in the region. There have been excavations that have led to this unveiling. The district is a part of the southernmost part of the Plateau of Deccan and at the same time also involves the Western Ghats in its geography. The district has agriculture as its main occupation with coffee, tea, pepper, etc. The district has a population of 8.1 lacs individuals approximately with a density of 383 individuals per sq km. The district is a part of the list of the 250 most backward district of India. It is the only district from Kerala to feature in the list.
