Kozhikode

The district of Kozhikode is an important district to the state of Kerala in many aspects. The district is located along the south – western coast of India. The district has the main centre for its administration in the city of Calicut. The districts that border the Kozhikode district are Kannur, Wayanad, Mallappuram. The Arabian Sea borders the coastline of the district. The region was once ruled by the Great Tipu Sultan who lost the land to the East India Company in the third Anglo – Mysore war that took place in the year 1792. The population of the district of Kozhikode is approximately around the amount of 30 lacs with the density of population on the extreme higher side at 1318 individuals per sq km. Just like most of the districts of Kerala, the male to female ratio of the district is 1097 females per 1000 males. The district is famous for the temples and mosques that it has. The tourism earns a lot of revenue for the district.
