Kannur

The Kannur district has its main administrative centre in the city of Kannur itself. The district was previously known as the Cannanore. The name was given by the foreigners who ruled the area which is a result of the missed pronunciation of the Malayalam word Kannur. The term was later made proper by the joint venture of Indian and the state Government.  The districts that border the district of Kannur are Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Wayanad. The state of Karnataka and the Arabian Sea also borders the district. The district played a very important role in India’s fight for Independence. The district of Kannur is one of the most developed and Urbanised region of the state. The district holds an area of 2996 sq km with a population amounting up to 25 lacs individuals with a high population density of 852 individuals per sq km. Just like many other districts of Kerala, The district of Kannur has 1133 females when compared to 1000males.
