East Kameng

East Kameng District is the district that shares its borders with the country of China, Assam, West Kameng, Papumpare and Kurung Kumey districts. The district came into being in the year of 2000. The region was mainly ruled by the tribal leaders in the past. Few of the notable tribal chiefs who ruled the East Kameng District region were the Aka and the Nishi chiefs. Previously there was one district named Kameng District which was later split into two East Kameng District and West Kameng district. The East Kameng District occupies an area of 1434 sq km with the population amounting to 78 thousand individuals roughly. Koro is the main language of the tribes living in the region. Although agriculture is the main occupation but the form is different. Till date, Slash and burning technique of agriculture is utilised. The district is rich in the Flora and Fauna it holds. Tourism also helps in earning a lot of revenue for the district administration.
