Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is a renowned person in Indian history and played crucial roles for the independence of India. Let’s learn about this famous personality in detail. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born on 28th May 1883, in the village of Bhagur, which is located near to the city of Nashik, Maharashtra. His parents name was Damodar and Radhabai Savarkar. But he was not the only child of his parent, he had two brother and one sisters named as Ganesh, Narang and Mainabai. But in early age, Vinayak lost his parents and his eldest brother named as Ganesh, took over the responsibility of running the house and also to take care of the family. Ganesh was also called with name as Babarao.

When Vinayak grew little bit older he formed a famous group of friends called as Mitra Mela. In this group he used to encourage his friends about the revolutionary ideas that can or will help the nation to get independence. In the year 1901, it was time Vinayak to get married and in the very same year he got married to Yamunabai. Yamunabai was the daughter of Ramchandra Triambak Chiplunkar. His father law supported his education in the college and Vinayak successfully able to take admission in to prestigious college known as Fergusson College in Pune and did his graduation from there only. In the college also, he used to inspire and teach his fellow mates about the ideas of great leaders of the time like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal and Lala Lajpat Rai. He was actively involved in the various types of nationalist movement that were running at that time and this can be seen by his sheer involvement in the movements against the partition of Bengal and the rising Swadeshi campaign. To support Swadeshi movements he organized a huge born fire of foreign good and told people not to us the foreign goods. Due to this he was not allowed to study anymore in the University, but he was able to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree from the college.

He also made a group called as Abhinav Bharat in which people the fellow students of him, were there in it. Then in the year 1905, he went to the United Kingdom to study the law. But there also he was arrested for many times for his involvement in to activities that were against the British nation. After that he was sent to Indian and was kept in the Andman jail. There his life becomes worse because of the in Human conditions that were prevailing there. He there also met with his elder brother Ganesh. His health started to Detroit fast and he wrote to the British authority for asking mercy and release of him from the jail. Many times British authority rejected his plea but after the request of   Mahatma Gandhi, Vithalbhai Patel and Bal Gangadhar Tilak he was released in the year 1924. But was not allowed to move or go out of his district. Again from there he was actively involved in the political movements.

He promoted Hinduism to great extent and was leader of Hindu Mahasabha. He played crucial role even after the independent of India and was actively involved in the process or removing the caste system from the India society. He died on 26 February 1966.
