Airports in Assam, India

Following are the airports in Assam State:

1) Dibrugarh Airport: This Airport is located around 15 Km from the main city of Dibrugarh at a place called as Mohanbari. This airport was renovated in the year 2009, to cater the needs of domestic people by opening a new terminal. Various fliers like Air India, uses their small planes to transport people and goods from one place to another. Also in terms of security this airport is having 2 security check counters. But there is no immigration counters as no international flights are available. Connectivity to the airport is good, but not that great as it should be.

2) Guwahati Airport: This is major airport that is operating in the North east region of India. The name of this airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. With facility of two terminals one for International and other for domestic, this is most advance airport here. Various operators, national and international carry passenger form here to different destination. Connectivity is not an issue for this airport as Guwahati city is nearby this port. Also various facilities for passengers and cargo handling are available. Food courts are also present with facility of rest rooms too.

3) Silchar Airport: This is another airport which is located nearby the Silchar City. Around 24 Km away from the main city, this airport is located at Hailakandi, Karimganj area of the Silchar. A major renovation was carried out on this airport and was completed by the 2007. Now it caters various flights every week. Air India and Jet Airways are the two operators that are currently having operation on this airport. Flights to major cities like Guwahati, Kolkata are available till this airport. There are four check in counters and can handle the 300 passengers at a time.

4) Jorhat Airport: This is a very small airport dedicated towards catering the needs of areas that are adjacent to the Jorhat. This airport is located 3 Km away from the nearest airport. Earlier this airport was the base for the Indian Air force, but some part of it was given commercial clearance keeping an eye on the fact that the need to have an airport transport system. Jet Airways is the only operator here which is currently having operations.
