Airports in Madhya Pradesh, India

Following are some of the airports that are present in Madhya Pradesh:

Raja Bhoj Airport (BHO): This airport serves the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. On the national Highway 12, near Gandhi Nagar area which is around 15 KM from Bhopal, this airport is located. There are two runway here having length of 1,042m and 2,042m. Various national fliers like Air India, Jet Airways, JetKonnect and Spicejet have regular flights till here from major metro cities of India. One cargo terminal is also there and Blue dart have its operations. During the season of Hajj, some international flights operate from here also.

Gwalior Airport (GWL): Gwalior is a civil enclave airport, which means that, both Indian Air force and civil aviation has operations here. It spreads in an area of almost 29.5 acres and has the capacity of handling 200 passengers per hour. Airbus A320 flights can easily accommodate here. There are two runways. Currently the length of runway is around 2743 m with a surface of Asphalt. It is located 188m above the sea level. Some national flight operators have operation to this airport.

Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport (IDR): This airport is the busiest airport in the state and a major destination when it comes to import of products. It is located around 8 Km west of Indore. The passenger movements on this airport have seen a high surge. Now every year Hajj Charter goes out to Saudi to carrying Hajj Pilgrims. Since Indore is famous for its business operations, air traffic is fast increasing here. A major renovation ended in the year 2012 and that gave a new look to this airstrip as a new terminal was constructed. With a proposal of making this airport as International, several additions like Check in counters, Foods courts etc are being made. Currently the length of runway is around 2750 m and it located 564m above the sea level. All major national flight operators have operations from this airstrip.

Jabalpur Airport (JLR): Around 25 Km away from Jabalpur, this airport is located. It is a main source of air traffic movement here as it covers around 15 districts in itself. Mainly passenger movement is due to tourist and Defense personal. Jabalpur is a major base for defence vehicles and, thus to cater the need, an expansion plan is undergoing. 1988 meter is current length of this airstrip and is located at 495 m above from sea level. All the necessary facilities like night landing, air conditioning and transportation are available. Around 500 hectares of land has been allotted by Madhya Pradesh Government to do the expansion and runway length will be increased for making it suitable for landing larger planes.

Khajuraho Airport (HJR): It serves the city of Khajuraho which is a key tourist destination in India. Flights from Varanasi, Delhi, Agra are flying towards it and Air India, Jet Airways and Spicejet have operation till this airstrip. Current length of Runway is around 2,274 m and is located 222m above the sea level.
