Bundi Festival (Bundi Utsav)

Bundi Festival or Bundi Utsav is held in the picturesque town of Bundi located in the district of Hadoti in Rajasthan. The otherwise isolated and quiet town of Bundi comes alive with festive spirit during the Utsav which is the most awaited event of the year in the state. Bundi Utsav is regarded as one of the significant events of the Indian calendar.

Bundi utsav is organized by Rajasthan State Tourism Department and showcases the rich and varied culture of the princely state of Rajasthan. The festival is an attempt to present the culture, folklore, traditions and craft of the region to the world. The festival sees a beautiful amalgamation of several cultural, artistic and religious proceedings.

Bundi Festival 2021 Dates : When is Bundi Utsav?

The festival is celebrated every year in the month of November-December. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival falls in the month of Kartik.

In 2021 the festival is going to start from 1st December to 3rd December. (dates may change)

The Bundi fair includes a colourful Shobha Yatra or a procession where people clad in colourful ethnic dresses take part. Events like ethnic sports contests, arts and craft fairs, cultural exhibits and music and dance performances by folk artists are some of the major attractions during the festival. Deep Daan, local sightseeing, traditional rural sports, turban competition, bridal attire, musical band competition are also some of the major crowd pullers in which people take part enthusiastically. The fair attract a huge number of visitors and villagers from nearby regions. Dazzling fireworks that light up the night sky leaves the tourists mesmerised who come here from far and wide.

During the course of the festival Keshorai Patan, small hamlet located near Bundi, epitomizes the famous Pushkar Cattle Fair. After the full moon night of kartik (Purnima) men and women elegantly dressed in traditional costumes gather at the Chambal River. The scene of the women chanting ritual songs, offering prayers and floating lighted lamps into the serene river is truly an enchanting experience.

The vibrant Bundi Utsav attracts thousands of tourists from India and abroad who come here to experience mystical magic of the region. Tourists can also take part in various contests and buy the local artefacts that are displayed here.

Bundi which is situated about 36kms from Kota and around 210 kms away from Jaipur is a famous tourist’s destination. Bundi is known for its lush green widespread woods, massive stretches of jungles and wildlife, sprawling gorges and rocks, spellbinding waterfalls, magnificent palaces and imposing forts. Bundi is very famous for its intricate carvings and murals. The town is also home to the some of the world’s best paintings and their origins. Especially the paintings at Chitrashala are very popular.
