Dussehra Significance

Dussehra festival is celebrated with two reasons, and they are: on this Day Lord Rama Killed demon king Ravana. And other reason for that is, on this day Goddesses Durga defeated Mahisasur. So, because of these two win over the evil, we call Dussehra as Vijayadashmi. But Lord Rama story gave the humanity a very new concept like strong relationship between brothers, respect for women etc. Till now this holy story is considered as the foundation principal for human living. Lord Rama is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

There are various events that unfolded during Ramayana, that are now acts as the example in the day today life of human life. For example how we children should have their duty towards their parents and how we should stick to the words of our parents.

Dussehra Celebrations on this day all over the India and also outside Indian are immense. From streets processions, Ram Lila performance to burning of effigies all sorts of these events unfolds on this day. But celebrations are not only limited to these events, food is also integral part of it. So making of various sweets, food dishes etc are quite common in every household.

But celebrations are different also, for instance in west Bengal, on this Durga Puja finishes and goddesses is submerged in water. In Karnataka they other massive streets processions which is something nobody wants to miss. In the states of Kerala and Andhara Pradesh, this day is used to worship goddesses Saraswati and is concerned to be very auspicious. During the burning of effigies of Ravana and his son and brother, crackers are busted all over the nation and it is to signify the end of the evil. The much waited or watched event is the performance given by children or adults to depicts the story of Ramayana called as Ram lila. In several places, professional actors also come to perform this event.

This festival also sends a strong message among the people that, whenever evil, hatred and injustice comes in the human race, gods have come to the earth in various forms to eliminate them and also to free the humanity from it. Lord Rama fought a ten day battle with the demon king Ravana in order to eliminate his stature from earth and also to protect and get back Ma Sita back from his captivity, as this battle last for 10 days; it is why it is called as Vijay Dashmi. One another form was taken by the Lord Vishnu in the form of Krishna, famously known as Maha Bharath.
