The CBSE NET is the national level examination to determine the eligibility for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Lectureship for the Indian students. The exam is conducted twice annually by National Educational Testing Bureau Department of UGC (University Grants Commission). The upcoming CBSE NET 2017 is fixed for 22-01-2017. NET covers 95 subjects all total, including Humanities, Forensic Science, Social Science, Environmental Science, Electronic Science as well as Computer Science & Applications.

Eligibility conditions

The eligibility criteria for CBSE NET 2017 are-

  • The applicant must score minimum 55 percent in Master’s or equivalent test from UGC recognized institutions/universities. The cut off is 50 percent for the OBC, PWD & SC/ST candidates.
  • Candidates who would be appearing or have already appeared in Master’s final exam (awaiting result) are also eligible for application. However, their selection is dependent on the required 55 percent cut-off in their final Master’s Degree result. In case. They fail to come up with required cut-off, the candidature would be cancelled.
  • Candidates can only appear in subjects of Post-graduation. If the particular subject isn’t covered under NET, then he/she can apply in some related subject approved by NET.
  • Candidates applying for JRF should not be over 28 years by 1st January 2017. The OBC, PWD, SC, ST & female candidates will get up till 5 years of relaxation in age limit. The 5 years of age relaxation would be offered to candidates with research experience.
  • There is no age limit in case of candidates applying for the lectureship (Assistant Professor).

CBSE NET Application fees

The application fee for CBSE NET 2017 is 600 INR for general candidates, 300 INR for the OBC candidates & 150 INR for SC, ST & PWD candidates.

The candidates may pay the examination fee either by credit/ debit card or through echallan generated during the online filling of the application form. In case of e-challan the payment should be made in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank

How to apply

To apply online for CBSE NET 2017 , go to cbsenet.nic.in

  • Stay ready with scanned passport photograph in the JPEG format and it should be lesser to 300 kb.
  • Hit on “Start Procedure” to create your login account.
  • Provide personal & educational details as well as upload photo.
  • Click on “Apply For NET” & provide the needed details.
  • Review education, personal details & the photograph. Edit if needed.
  • If everything is okay, note reference number & print bank challan.
  • Make the payment as directed.
  • A couple of days post the fee payment through the Bank Challan , the applicant  must check out the fee payment status from UGC site- cbsenet.nic.in
  • If the status comes “OK” the applicant can print out his/her application form, Attendance slip & Admit Card on A-4 papers.
  • You must attach the Bank Challan copy with Application form printout, which would be submitted to Principal/Registrar of CBSE NET opted Coordinating Institution.
  • The ST, SC, PWD, OBC & other applicants looking for age relaxation must attach the relevant documents with the form.

CBSE NET 2017 exam

The CBSE NET 2017 exam will comprise of 3 papers, with 100 marks each for Paper I & II and 150 marks for Paper III.
