Kuvempu University was set up in 1987 in Shimoga, Karnataka with the mission to become an International brand in quality education and research to impart excellent education to rural youth. Kuvempu University has got the ‘A’ rating from NAAC, a 4-star rating from KSURF 2019, and stood at 73rd position for All India Ranking by NIRF 2019. The name of the university is taken from Shri KUVEMPU, the most respected and prominent person in Kannada literature. It consists of a PG center which is situated at Basavanagara, Kadur to convey higher learning for the youth of the state.

- M.Sc in Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Environment Science, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Remote Sensing and GIS Applications
- The other courses include B.Sc, BBA, B.Com through distance education mode.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates looking for admission in UG and PG programs must have cleared higher secondary and graduated from a board or university recognized by the University Grant Commission.
- Admission to MBA is done on the basis of the valid marks in the MAT/CMAT
- Admission to all other courses is confirmed on the basis of merit in the previous qualifying exam
Placement
The institution has its own training and placement cell that organizes campus interviews for its students and also provides suitable training & guidance to help them for better job placement. Some of the esteemed organizations that have already visited and provided jobs include Aditya Birls, HCL, TCS, Wipro, and many more.
Scholarship
The university provides scholarships to deserving students in the form of Fee Reimbursement for ST/SC students belonging to the Below Poverty Line through the Social Welfare Department.
