Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry was inaugurated in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh in the month of December 1985. The UGC recognized university is one of the members of the Association of Indian Universities. The university is also approved by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
The main goal of the university is to provide and promote higher education, research in the field of Horticulture and Forestry. The university is named after Yashwant Singh Parmar who was the former CM of Himachal Pradesh. There are 237 highly qualified faculty members in the university and 169 are posted on the main campus. It provides various UG, PG, and Doctoral level courses in the field of Horticulture and Forestry. The university was placed at the 80th position for the best agriculture university in Indian in 2019 by NIRF.

Eligibility Criteria
- Admission to the B.Sc (Hons) is decided by the Entrance Test conducted by the university. The university reserved 85% seats for the candidates of Himachal Pradesh and rest 15% of seats are filled by the national level Entrance exam conducted by the ICAR.
- Admission in M.Sc is granted on the basis of valid marks in the All India Entrance Examination conducted by ICAR, New Delhi
