The Saurashtra University is one of the significant universities in Gujarat state in India. This university was established on 23 May 1967 in Rajkot city, the administrative headquarters in Rajkot. The jurisdiction of the University includes Amreli, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar,  Rajkot, Surendranagar, Morbi, Gir Somnath and Dwarka districts .The campus of the University is spread over 360 acres of land. It has 28 Postgraduate Departments on its campus and 297 affiliated colleges.

So as to advance in exploration in advanced education Saurashtra University, Rajkot has established Professor Dolarrai Mankad Award for Excellence in Research in the memory of its first Vice Chancellor.
