2020 is the year for biographical films and Vicky Kaushal is ready to appear on the big screen as Sardar Udham Singh this time. Banita Sandhu will be seen opposite Vicky Kaushal, who made her debut in “October”. This movie is based on the freedom fighter Udham Singh and is scheduled to release on 2 October, 2020. The film has been produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under the banners of Rising Sun Films and Kino Works. The script has been written by Ritesh Shah and Shubhendu Bhattacharya. Avik Mukhopadhyay has looked after the cinematography.

The movie is based on the life story of legendary freedom fighter Udham Singh who is known for his assassination of Michael O’Dwyer, former lieutenant governor of the Punjab from 1913 – 1919 in India. O’Dwyer was the main orchestrator of the Jalliwanwallan Bagh massacre and was assassinated by Sardar Udham Singh on 13 March, 1940 as revenge. Principal photography of the film began on 30 April, 2019 and the entire film was wrapped up on 27 December, 2019. The release date is also crucial as it is scheduled to hit the big screens on 2 October which is also Gandhi Jayanti.

The film has been directed by Shoojit Sircar. After “Vicky Donor”, “Piku” and “October”, this would be another mark of his unique genre in the trajectory of Bollywood films. He is also eager to see how much he has been able to bring this almost unknown revolutionary alive on silver screens. Shooting has been done in several places that include Europe, Russia, London, Ireland, Germany, and India. A source remarked that locations and the weathers have been almost like characters of the film. The first look of Vicky Kaushal as Udham Singh from the film is already making strong waves among his fans and cine lovers by now. It is only a matter of time to see how far the Sircar’s story and movie could deliver justice to this almost unsung hero.
