Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University in Bhavnagar was initiated by the Government of Gujarat in November 1978 with the main objective to develop and promote higher learning programs, training & teaching programs, faculty improvement, social activism programs in the state. It is a state university recognized by the UGC and is governed & funded by the state government of Gujarat.
