Shriparvata Shakti Peeth

Shriparvata Shakti Peeth is among the 51 Shakti Peeth of Ma Sati. It is said that the Right Ankle of maa Sati fell here when lord Vishnu in order to relieve lord Shiva from grief of losing his wife Sati, used his ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ to incise maa Sati Body. Then, at the place of fall of Right Ankle, this temple was constructed. Suchindram Shakti Peeth is situated near Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Here the idol of maa Sati is called as ‘Shri Sundari’ and the lord Shiva is worshipped as ‘Sundaranand’. Meaning of Shri Sundari means the one who is pretty.

The overall art and architecture of the temple is great. On the side premises there are sculptures various gods and goddesses. In the main sanctorum, lies the idol of Maa Sati. It is always covered with red cloth and idol is made of black stone. Around the idol is the gold dome that covers the idol 2/3 part from above.

History of Shriparvata Shakti Peeth

History to this place dates back in the time when it is said that the Right ankle of Maa Sati fell on this place. In order to embark the spiritual importance to this place of fall, a temple was constructed. But still the correct origin of this temple is not known, but can be best known from the local population residing here.

Festivals in Shriparvata temple

Maha Shivaratri is the major festival of this place and celebrated with great devotion, fun and dedication. People keep fast during these days as this day is considered highly auspicious. On the other hand, Navratri is also a major festival and celebrated for Nine days as 9 forms of goddesses Durga is celebrated. During Deepavali there is a huge mela organized here and the whole ambience during this time I worth experiencing.

Where to stay

As such you won’t find any specific hotel (In terms of international brands), but regional hotels are lot here. Since Kurnool is itself a major tourist hub, so there are several 5 star (Although they will never appear) hotels catering need of pilgrims. Civil population is scarce here, so you won’t find people and hotels in large number. Various small guest houses are also there and they good packages in terms of money. But in small guest houses you have to order food from outside. The local dishes that are made from Rice like ‘idli’, ‘dosa’ are seriously something that everyone should go, and they are served leaves of banana trees, so hygiene is always there in food. But people from different part of the country will find food to be little weird at first time.

  1. Most of the population living here follows Hindu religion, so there are various things that belongs Hindu is available here.
  2. Traditional cloths like Silk Saree are available in immense numbers.
  3. Religious related stuff can be obtained from the nearby vicinity of the temple.
  4. Local or handicrafts shops are the one that caters maximum people, so try one of them, especially those made cotton threads.
  5. Bargaining during the shopping is a must and must thing.
  6. Finally try to buy those things that are available here only, because other things can be bought at your native or living place also.

How to reach the Shriparvata temple

  1. Kurnool connectivity to rest of the country is pretty good and But train to this destination are not directly available.
  2. Road, there are couple of buses that ply from major cities of India towards this sacred site, on interval basis. Personal vehicles are also used by people to reach here.  There is port connectivity too, so people coming from states that have ship ports will find it pleasant journey.
  3. Railway is the most common mode transportation to reach Kurnool. From Kurnool  local transportation needs to be taken to reach Suchindram temple.
  4. Air, Dedicated airport is there in Chennai (Capital of Tamil Nadu), and provision of both national and international flight is there in this airport.
