Dussehra Recipes - Sabudana Khichidi & Kuttu Ki Puri

It is rightly said by someone that diverse types of food is what defines the vivacious celebration of a festival or any event. So, does the festival of Dussehra too. During this day, different of cousins are made at home to celebrate the essence of this happy day. In various states of India across all corners, you have a cuisine that is native there and made in every house.

Although people generally tend to go out for eating, but in the day time, before the effigies of Ravan is burned, people prepare these dishes at home like Jalebis. Since this is very holy day, nothing sort of onion or garlic is consumed as it is not the part of Hindu Culture to be used in food. So we do have a collection of Dussehra Recipes that can be made by you at your house on this very auspicious day. So let’s see these one by one:

How to Prepare Sabudana Khichidi

Things you will need to make it

  1. Sabudana( Depends on you, as for how much people you want to make it)- 1 or 2 cup is enough.
  2. 1 boiled and peeled potato, you can add more also.
  3. 1 or ½ teaspoon of sugar.
  4. Finely chopped green chilies, two will be ok.
  5. Coarsely crushed, groundnuts, ½ cup will be ok for it.
  6. Oil for frying, 2 teaspoon will be enough for it.
  7. Mustard seeds, as per your need, but ¼ of the teaspoon will be ok.
  8. Hing also called as asafetida, pinch amount is ok.
  9. Fresh grated coconut, 2 teaspoon will be enough.
  10. Cumin seeds are also required, half teaspoon will be enough.
  11. Curry leaves and coriander leaves to add the flavor. Salt as per you need.

How to make this dish

  1. Before making this, you have to keep Sabodan to soak, around 2 hours before its making as it will help it cook better and also to get puffy.
  2. Now take the pan and add the oil (2 teaspoon will be enough), and heat it.
  3. Now add one mustard seed and see if it is crackling, if yes then add other mustard seeds also, it should be followed by adding curry leaves, coriander leaves and cumin seeds
  4. Now after they turn little brown, add the potato pieces in to it and mix all the material in the pain well.
  5. Fry the potato pieces well and then add the sabodana. Also mix them well, so that they are mixed well to it.
  6. Also add the groundnut, sugar and salt to it. Make sure that, you mix them properly.
  7. Now add the properly grated coconut and also the coriander leaves for garnishing.
  8. You can also add some drop of lemon juice in to it as it will be add flavor to it.

So, this was all and serve the dish hot. You can add little water (Very small) in to it, as it avoids this dish getting stick to the pan.

How to Make Kuttu Ki Puri

Things you will need to make it

  1. You need buckwheat flour or Kuttu Ki Puri, 1 cup will be enough for three people.
  2. Chopped ¼ cup of coriander leaves.
  3. 1 boiled potato, mash it and keep it.
  4. Oil for deep frying, and water for kneading water.
  5. Green chilies in a chopped state.

How to make it process:

  1. Take a bowl, add Kuttu Ka Atta into it. Now add coriander leaves, mashed potato, green chilies and salt in to it.
  2. Now add the water in to and knead the dough properly, so that everything mixes properly.
  3. Now take small amount form the dough and make Puri with.
  4. Now add them one by one for deep frying in the pan.
  5. Now when they turn brown, take them out.
  6. Now serve them with green or red chili chutney or with any other thing you want.
