Tripura Shakti Peeth

Tripura Shakti Peeth is among the 51 Shakti Peeth of Maa Sati. It is said that, the Right Leg Maa Sati fell here, when lord Vishnu in order to relieve lord Shiva from grief of losing his wife Sati, used his ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ to incise maa Sati Body. Then, at the place of fall of right leg, this temple was constructed. Tripura Shakti Peeth is situated in near Radhakishorepur village, Udaipur town of Tripura, India. Here the idol of maa Sati is called as ‘Kali Maa’ and the lord Shiva is worshipped as ‘Tripuresh’. The temple of Maa Sati is famous here with the name known as Tripura Sundari Temple.

History of Tripura Peeth

It is said in the 16th century, a King used to be there and his name was King Dhanymanik. He was ardent worshiper of Maa Kali and one day in his dreams Maa Durga appeared and told him to get the idol of Maa from the hill and told him to construct temple. King ordered his soldiers to bring the idol and he in lieu of Maa Sati, he constructed a beautiful temple. History to this place dates back in the time when it is said that the Right Leg of Maa Sati fell to this place. Festivals in Tripura temple

  1. Deepawali is most well celebrated festival here and people in large number flock to this part to pray goddess Sati or Maa Kali.

Durga Puja is celebrated in other states also, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Kashmir, Karnataka and Kerala, in Tripura too, it is celebrated with the same enthusiasm. The day of celebration is decided by the Hindu calendar.
  3. People (Almost every day) offer their offering to the god in form of fruit, milk, homemade sweets etc.

Also there are several non payable guest houses or Dharmsalas that are run by the various nonprofit organizations. Beware of the touts who promises to give hi-fi deals with cheap rates. Take necessary steps to protect yourself from sunburn etc, because in the summer season, temperature shoots up to 40+ degrees in this part of the country.

How to reach the Tripura temple

  1. Direct trains are available to Agartala station only and various trains ply directly from Delhi, Patna, Ahmedabad, Mumbai to here.
  2. From Agartala Railway station you have to board local train, to reach Udaipur.
  3. Several deluxe bus services are available to Agartala and they are worth trying, if you are not getting reservation in the train.
  4. Nearest airport is in the Agartala, and national flights are available from here, for international flights, Guwahati and Kolkata is the nearest places.
  5. But it is advisable to have taxi or your own mode of transportation when you are from Agartala to this part.
  6. Auto Rickshaw and Bus are common mode of transportation inside the city, but for rural journey by foot is the common one.
